The Official Houseboat Trip 2003 Website!

 

G'day People of the Houseboat!

Well, the 2003 trip has been and gone.  In due course, Nath will produce a houseboat Top 13, and I'll post some photos when they are sent, and the words to "GS twelve days to Christmas" will go up.  

In the mean time, to help The Dudes plan for next year, here is the excellent bit of paper used to calculate the budget etc for the trip.  The numbers below will help interpret the various columns etc.  

In Summary:

TOTAL COMMUNAL COSTS:         $2279

TOTAL COMMUNAL INCOME:        $2615

TOTAL SURPLUS:                            $336

WHY? To be fair, everyone was charged according to a budget estimate of 18 people.  We had 21 people there fore the full week, including 3 people who joined us unexpectedly, namely Nath, Loz, and Flynn.  We also used around $250 of fuel instead of $300 last year, because we didn't move the boat all week.

HOW IS SURPLUS SPENT?            The Bignell Residence Cricket match : $225

  • There is $111 left.  This will be combined with any surplus from Stubby Holder sale for a huge communal event in March or Easter.  

  • Any ideas for this event welcome, including anyone willing to organise it.   If you  choose a cricket match, please beware that Richo and I are the best cricketers by far (37 partnership), and be aware that you still have dignity with your pants down.

WHAT DOES THE BOAT LOOK LIKE?

HOW DOES IT WORK WHEN THE BEDS ON THE BOAT FILL UP?  Others will tent in on the bank.  The boat wont move much.

WHEN IS THE FULL AMOUNT DUE?  Strictly 14 September. 

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING? Tents if you're on the bank.  Food, beer, etc.  (Nothing is supplied).  Clothing is optional.  Fishing gear.  Extra stuff like life jackets, floating things etc. are good too.  

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY CAR: Those on the bank leave it on the bank on the last night.  Those on the boat leave it in the safe area where we pick the boat up.  Those on the bank will probably do a run or two into Echuca if we run out of ice / beer etc.

WHAT IF YOU ONLY WANT TO GO FOR A FEW NIGHTS? That's OK - see me about payment.  Note that Sunday night is not on the boat and therefore not chargable.  Also, you will need to stay on the boat Thursday night so that we are within striking distance to return the boat on time in the morning, so we'll have to suss something out in that case.  We done it last year, so no need to stress.

IS THERE A LIMIT TO HOW MANY GO? SORT OF.  FIRST IN BEST DRESSED. - WE MIGHT CAP IT AT ABOUT 20.

HOW MANY ARE OFFICIALLY ALLOWED ON THE BOAT? 12.  So make sure you don't mention the bank crew to the good people when they supply us with the boat, hey?

WHAT IF YOU ONLY WANT TO GO FOR A FEW NIGHTS? You will be charged per night accordingly, see below.

 

COSTS PER PERSON (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):::::::::::::::::

We dont know the fuel cost yet (it was ~$350 last year) and we dont know how many are going.  Therefore, we are going to have to guess the cost, and then sort out the difference later.  We have decided costs such that it is probably an overestimate, so that each person coming can approach me after the event for a refund.  If the difference works out to be less than about 5 bucks each, then, to save rooting around, it will not be refunded, and will go toward complimentary beer or goon for a backyard cricket match etc over summer.  Note that the organisers (Leeroy, and my good self) WILL NOT PROFIT from the exercise, so no whinging.  

If anything is wrecked on the boat, we have to pay for it.  The $800 bond does not limit our liability in the event of damage, so keep that in mind hey?  Damage costs will be divvied up between those attending, if it was caused by the gross negligence or intent of any individual, then they can pay more than the others to in a proportion which reflects their lack of judgement.

There are FOUR types of accommodation.  These have been attributed costs below which reflect the degree of luxury etc.  People camping on the bank will have pretty good access to the facilities on the boat, which include massive eskys (freezer boxes), shower, cooking facilities, heated / air conditioned lounge, and most importantly, the spa.  An example of the the formula used to calculate these ratios is also below for your interest.
